Habitat for Humanity Guatemala - May 2018
Course offered: DISC 300 (1 credit)
As you help build healthy home kits with the locals, you will become part of the community you are serving. You will be invited to eat traditional Guatemalan foods, interact with families within the community you’re helping to improve, explore local sites, and learn about the innovative ‘three-part healthy home kit’ platform Habitat Guatemala will use to serve families in need.
Application Deadline: February 1, 2018
Spend a part of Summer in Guatemala helping Habitat for Humanity build healthy home kits for families living in poverty. This program offers a unique opportunity for UE engineering students to take the skills and techniques learned in the classroom to better the lives of those in need in Guatemala. Students will spend 9 days building smokeless stoves, sanitary latrines, and water filters for families as part of Habitat Guatemala’s three-part Healthy Home Kit. This program will provide countless challenges for students from being in extreme poverty situations to working physical labor in high temperatures. This will be the most rewarding and most difficult, once in a life time experience for all those involved. This trip is not for the faint of heart, Habitat Guatemala needs UE students with open minds and open hearts. Take a giant leap to make a small change for those in need!
